Lucas closing in on Reds return

Liverpool midfielder Lucas is closing in on his return to the first team, with the Brazil international set to play for the Reds’ reserves on Friday, according to TalkSport.

The 27 year old has been out of action for almost two months, having suffered knee damage in the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on January 18th.

However, he is now in a race to be fit for the clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford next weekend, giving a huge boost to manager Brendan Rodgers’ heading into the final ten games of the season.

Meanwhile, the club look set to make a move for Micah Richards, after the defender rejected the chance to sign a new contract with Manchester City, according to the Metro.

The Reds were linked with the 25 year old back in January, and are likely to renew their interest when the transfer window reopens.

Elsewhere, Fabio Borini has hinted that he wants to return to Liverpool once he has completed his loan stint with Sunderland, Sky Sports understands.

The Italy international, who scored in the Black Cat’s 3-1 Capital One Cup final defeat at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, has said that he believes he has demonstrated that he is ‘made for a big team’.
