Reds to rival Arsenal for Morata

Liverpool are set to rival Arsenal in the race to sign Real Madrid starlet Alvaro Morata on loan, the Express understands.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for the forward as they look to solve their attacking crisis, which was worsened this week by the news that Theo Walcott will be out of action for six months with a knee injury.

However, Brendan Rodgers has also reportedly thrown his hat in to the ring as he looks increase his own attacking options.

Morata is reportedly keen to move away from the Bernabeu temporarily as he seeks further first team experience, but his manager Carlo Ancelotti is keen for him to remain with the club.

The Spain U21 international has made ten appearances in La Liga so far this season, scoring twice.

Meanwhile, Udinese have denied that they are interested in signing Fabio Borini, according to Talksport.

The Serie A side had been linked for a move for the Italian striker, who is currently on loan with Sunderland after failing to hold down a first team place with the Reds.

The former Chelsea man scored from the penalty spot to secure a 2-1 victory for Gus Poyet’s side over Manchester United in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final at the Stadium of Light yesterday evening.
