Liverpool have moved up to second place in the Premier League after beating Southampton 3-0 at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.
Top scorer Luis Suarez opened the scoring on sixteen minutes with his first goal in six games, before Raheem Sterling doubled the visitors’ advantage just ahead of the hour mark.
It would be fair to say that the saga involving the appointment of the next Liverpool manager has been prolonged to say the least. A whole host of candidates have been linked with the position and while it appeared as though Roberto Martinez was all but certain to net the job, Brendan Rodgers then came out of nowhere and was offered the position.
There is no doubt that one of the big dilemmas on the Liverpool board’s mind will have been the compensation package that would accompany the appointment of Rodgers. Continue reading
For the past week most people have assumed that Roberto Martinez was all but certainly set to land the position as Liverpool’s new manager. However, recent events appear to have turned the situation completely on its head, with Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers now the bookies favourite to take over from the recently sacked Kenny Dalglish.
Having been given permission by his chairman and flown over to discuss the terms of a possible appointment, it was assumed that it would just be a matter of time before Roberto Martinez was appointed.
