Gary Neville believes win over Liverpool hands Ole with the permanent Manchester United job

Manchester United legend-turned-pundit Gary Neville believes his former club may find it difficult to snub Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the permanent managerial role, should the Norwegian guide the team to success against Liverpool this weekend. The 45-year-old was tasked with the interim role during the month of December after the dismissal of Jose Mourinho at the helm, and he has since exceeded expectations by guiding United to 11 wins from 13 matches.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville highlighted that there is no doubt that Ole wants the permanent role with the Red Devils and he has the best chance of doing so, should the club get the better of Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sunday, he said: “Two or three months ago he would have been hopeful of getting the job, but if he beats Liverpool on Sunday then I can’t see any way he wouldn’t get it. It shouldn’t be defined by one game but to beat Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and then Liverpool it would almost make it impossible for him not to get the job. It is an incredible body of results and would make it a lot more difficult to withhold it from him if he keeps beating team after team.”

Ready for VAR?

Anyone who saw last season’s FA Cup match against West Brom (with it’s farcical 5 minute pauses in action, indecisive refereeing, and ultimately atmosphere-killing goal ‘scoring’) will tell you that VAR can be a disaster when it goes wrong. But it’s coming anyway!

We take a look at some of the game’s more interesting stats… Continue reading

Liverpool goalie, Alisson has admitted that the duo of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have forced him to adapt his game because both of them are “so good”.

4 Takeaways From Liverpool v Chelsea

The most anticipated match of the season thus far is now in the books, with Liverpool having salvaged a point at Stamford Bridge. Reds supporters will be breathing a sigh of relief, as a loss to Chelsea would have represented a fairly early setback, and now Liverpool remains tied with Manchester City atop the league tables. All in all, it was a terrific result. But here are four more takeaways from Saturday’s match.

1. The Equalizer Was Spectacular

This doesn’t really need to be said again for anyone who watched the match, but as it was still the main takeaway, I’m listing it. This was one of the best goals of the season so far, and may have been even more important than it was spectacular to watch. And what was really remarkable about the goal – an 89th minute strike from the red-hot Daniel Sturridge – was that he looked almost nonchalant about it. You’ll only see a handful of goals in a lifetime as effortlessly incredible as this one. Continue reading

Joe Gomez Suffers Season-Ending Injury

Liverpool have confirmed that Joe Gomez has undergone a surgery to an ankle problem which is expected to keep him out for a couple of months. As such, the England international will miss the Reds’ Champions League final against Real Madrid this month whilst also facing the heartbreak of not representing the Three Lions at the summer World Cup.

“Liverpool can confirm Joe Gomez has undergone an operation on an ankle injury. The surgery, which has now addressed the issue, means the 20-year-old will play no part in the remaining two fixtures of the 2017-18 campaign, or the World Cup finals with England. However, Gomez will be ready for the start of Liverpool’s pre-season training schedule in July following a rehabilitation period,” a statement from the club read. Continue reading

Simon Mignolet Prepared To Fight For His Liverpool Place

Belgium international Simon Mignolet has said that he is prepared to fight for his Liverpool future. The 30-year-old has been playing second fiddle to Loris Karius for most of the second half of the season, and he is still optimistic of proving himself to manager Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking in a press conference, Mignolet admitted that it is not a good situation to be in ahead of the World, but he is prepared to work hard in training to reclaim the number one role, he said: “Always the only thing you try to do is prove every time in training you are ready for when the chance comes along. It is never easy of course because I have never in my career spent time on the bench, but it is how it is and the only thing you can do is try to change it, but it is never easy. I’ve had a few conversations with the manager already and we have spoken about numerous things. You always have to be ready for when the chance comes along.”

Klopp Wants To Win Trophies

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that he wants to win trophies with Liverpool. He said that he does not want Liverpool to be known as an entertaining side but rather as a side that win trophies. He said that it is true that they have been good offensively and scored plenty of goals but this will be of no use if they do not manage to win trophies.

Indeed Liverpool has managed to score 300 goals since Jurgen Klopp has taken over as manager of the club and has established themselves as one of the most entertaining sides in the league. Earlier in the season, the team was facing some defensive worries where they were conceding too many goals and they have managed to address those issues. Jurgen Klopp said that the team has now become stronger defensively and that they are not giving away cheap goals.

Jurgen Klopp Reacts To Liverpool’s Champions League Draw Versus Manchester City

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his side won’t be favourites when they face-off against Manchester City in the quarter-final stage of the Champions League. A number of Reds players including Georginio Wijnaldum had hoped to miss the Citizens in the next stage of the European competition, but they will now to have overcome the Premier League leaders in order to qualify for the semi-finals.

Speaking in his weekly press conference, Klopp stressed that the Reds are not favourites to go through on any condition, but they will have to give their everything at this stage of the competition, he said: “I’ve said it before and it’s still the truth, it’s always common in a draw that you’ll get your neighbour, more or less, but to be honest I don’t mind, really. It is exactly like it was before – we take what we’ve got. Now it’s Manchester City, let’s go. We’ve lost once and we’ve won once against them in the league – and I don’t think they thought before the best draw they could have got is Liverpool. That’s a sign for us and how strong we can be.”
