Reds lost Sigurdsson over money

The Gylfi Sigurdsson transfer affair has been one of the strangest through the summer, with the former Reading midfielder seemingly on the verge of signing for Swansea, Liverpool and eventually Tottenham at different points through June. Following the 22-year-old’s switch to White Hart Lane last week, Brendan Rodgers has indicated that Sigurdsson most likely rejected the Reds due to the financial rewards on offer at Spurs. Even though it appeared as though Liverpool had lost out to Tottenham in the race for Gylfi Sigurdsson, it now seems as though Brendan Rodgers still has a chance of netting the Hoffenheim forward. Sigurdsson set for Anfield?

Following the appointment of Brendan Rodgers several weeks ago, there has been plenty of speculation on the future of Gylfi Sigurdsson. However, it appears as though the saga could be concluded in the very near future, with the former Reading man poised to sign for the Reds after rejecting the offer of a permanent switch to Swansea.

Sigurdsson, who enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at Swansea last term, had agreed to join the Liberty Stadium on a permanent basis last month. Continue reading
