Considering the fact that most of the newspapers have been concentrating on England’s postponement against Poland, it really should come as no surprise to see few columns filled up with gossip about the Reds. Most outlets that are running reports are either focussing on the club’s decision to stay at Anfield, or Fernando Torres’ recent comments that suggests he will always feel something for Liverpool. Other than that, here’s what Wednesday’s media managed to throw up…
Undoubtedly, the biggest story of the day revolves around Daniel Sturridge. This saga has the chance of being one of the most long-winded in a long, long time, with the former Manchester City striker linked with a switch to Anfield since the start of the summer. According to the Mirror, Brendan Rodgers is not at all interested in a permanent switch at the moment, with a reported fee of £20m supposedly proving to be too high for him. However, he is more than willing to discuss terms on a possible loan move, before having the option of making the deal permanent later on.
The Star are running a very similar story, with the only difference being the figures. This newspaper also claims that Rodgers is only interested in a loan switch for Sturridge, although they claim that any permanent deal would cost around £15m. This smaller valuation would certainly appear vindicated when you consider the fact that Sturridge has barely played this term and his contract expires at the end of the season.
The final report is also of the transfer variety, this time involving Arda Turan. This speculation actually arrives from a Portuguese source named Ojogo, who claim that Rodgers is pondering a €12m switch for the winger. Some fans may be quite familiar with Turan, with the player linked with a move to Merseyside in 2009 after claiming that he was a huge fan of the Reds.
Even though most newspapers are busy concentrating on the international matches that are due to take place over the next couple of days, there are still several reports loitering around about the Reds. Moreover, in an occurrence that is certainly strange considering the time of year we find ourselves in, most of this talk surrounds transfers. Continue reading
