Suarez wants to play ‘at the top’

Unsettled Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has reiterated his desire to join Real Madrid, Sky Sports understands.

The 26 year old has been strongly linked with a move to the Spanish capital after expressing his desire to leave Anfield last month.

The Uruguayan internationals position at the club is fast becoming untenable following a series of comments made since the close of the season.

Whilst maintaining that the club is close to his heart, Suarez has bemoaned their failure to qualify for the Champions League, as well as again confirming his wishes to play at the Bernabeu:

“A player always aspires to be at the top of their profession and Madrid is at the top for any football player.”

Suarez, who scored in Uruguay’s 2-1 Confederations Cup defeat to Spain yesterday, has four years remaining on his current deal at Anfield; a contract which the club have stressed they expect him to honour.

Meanwhile, the Reds will face competition from Juventus and Borussia Dortmund for the signature of Shakthar Donetsk’s attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, acoording to the Daily Mail.

However, Belgian international goalkeeper Simon Mignolet looks ever closer to securing a move to Anfield, with the Guardian claiming the club are optimistic that a deal can be struck with Sunderland.
