Elsewhere, the Daily Star understands that the club are closing in on a deal to sign Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

The Greece international is set to move to Merseyside before the transfer window closes on September 2nd after the Bundesliga side indicated that they are willing to sell.

The Star have also confirmed that the club have completed a loan deal for Valencia left back Aly Cissokho, but face competition in their pursuit of Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Willian.

The Brazil international is currently in London, and thought to be discussing a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Finally, the Reds are ready to bid £6m for Derby County’s highly rated midfielder Will Hughes, according to the Metro.

The eighteen year old has already racked up nearly 50 first team appearances, and won his third cap for the England under 21’s in their 6-0 victory over Scotland last week.
