GERRARD SLIPS UP

Life is a great leveller and so is football. Steven Gerrard whose name was on the lips of each and every Reds’ supporter till yesterday’s game has suddenly become a villain.

The Liverpool skipper had a torrid time on the field against the Blues. It’s not that he was out of nick. No, that was not the case. He actually played well for most parts of the game, but, sometimes, a minor lapse in concentration cost you dearly in sports and that’s what happened with Gerrard.

With first half just a few seconds away from being finished, something happened which Gerrard would probably not forget for the rest of his life. He got a pass from one of his teammates and he needed to control that somehow as he didn’t have any player behind, but, in order to do that, unfortunately, he lost his balance and slipped which gave enough time to Demba Ba to slot the ball into Liverpool’s net to open Chelsea’s account.

That was the killer blow because the kind of defensive line Chelsea had; everyone knew it would be one hell of a task for the Reds to equalize in the second half. The speculations turned out to be true. Despite trying various different things, Liverpool couldn’t break through. In fact, to add insult to injury, they conceded another goal in the last minute of the match.

However, as written above, Liverpool can still achieve glory, but, their fate is not in their hands now.
