Cole: Joining Liverpool was a mistake

Joe Cole has told ESPN.co.uk that he made mistake by signing for Liverpool.

The former England international, who signed for the Reds from Chelsea under the stewardship of Roy Hodgson back in July 2010, returned to boyhood club West Ham United in January.

After scoring three goals in thirty-two appearances in his first season at Anfield, Cole was loaned to French side Lille the following year.

He returned to Merseyside last summer, and played ten matches before being deemed surplus to requirements.

Cole admitted that he was never comfortable at Liverpool, who he chose over Tottenham Hotspur due to his connections with Chelsea and West Ham.

Elsewhere, Celtic have expressed an interest in signing Liverpool youngster Michael Ngoo, who is currently impressing with fellow Scottish Premier League side Hearts.

The 20 year old was impressive in last night’s 2-0 win over St Johnstone, providing the assist for John Sutton’s 83rd minute goal which sealed the victory.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail report that Arsenal will battle Liverpool for the signature of Swansea City and Wales captain Ashley Williams.

The 28 year old has been for Michael Laudrop’s side this season, leading the club to their first ever major trophy win in the League Cup final at Wembley last month.
