Gerrard feared Suarez exit

Steven Gerrard has admitted that he was worried that Luis Suarez would leave Liverpool this summer, according to the Express.

The Reds captain has said that he struggled to sleep due to concerns that the Uruguay striker may sign for another side during the transfer window.
Arsenal had two bids for Suarez rejected out of hand by Liverpool, while he himself hinted that he was keen to sign for Real Madrid.

The 26 year old impressed in his first league appearance since he received a ten game suspension for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in the 2-2 draw at Anfield back in April.

He scored twice as the Reds beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon – their fourth win in the clubs six league games so far this season.

Meanwhile, Juan Mata has labelled Liverpool and Arsenal as ‘very strong’ rivals to Chelsea this season, the Daily Star understands.

The Spain international, who has been linked with a move to both clubs after making only a handful of appearances since the Blues reappointed Jose Mourinho as maner, believes that his side ‘must keep fightnig’ – not least due to the threat posed by the division’s current top two sides.
