In the Papers: 15th October

Following a weekend of international football, the press appear eager for the domestic season to return as they refer to the Reds in several reports. While most of them revolve around the usual tittle-tattle, there is certainly one that could catch many people’s attention as it involves a certain left back that plays for Chelsea…

However, we’ll first start with a report on Anfield. Over the weekend it has come to light that the club are one step closer to redeveloping the stadium and the Daily Mail have added to this by reporting that the city is poised to announce plans for a regeneration of the local area. This would involve an area called “Anfield Village” and means that a new ground on Stanley Park now looks all but certain not to happen.

In other news, the Daily Mail have reported that the Reds are tracking two players in the form of Gary Hooper and Theo Walcott. Even though Hooper may not be the big name that some fans are looking for, the fact he is arguably the best striker in Scottish football right now at least provides a small claim that he could be a good target for Brendan Rodgers. In relation to Walcott, it’s understood that his precarious contract situation is the main lure for the club although there is still talk of Arsenal coming to an arrangement with the former Southampton forward.

However, the biggest news of the day undoubtedly comes from a source in Italy. Tuttojuve.com have announced that Juventus AND Liverpool are both analysing the Ashley Cole situation, in a bid to take advantage when his contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season. Of course, with Cole being regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, it remains to be seen whether a lack of Champions League football would be a turnoff for him.
