Liverpool in the Papers

With the transfer window in full flow, it’s no surprise to see Liverpool associated with a whole host of different rumours. Bearing this in mind, here are some of the biggest stories from media outlets across the country…

Firstly, Sky Sports is reporting that defender Martin Skrtel is exceptionally close to agreeing a new contract with the club. While Sky have not cited any sources, they claim to have inside knowledge that the Slovakian is about to sign a new, long-term deal after winning the club’s Player of the Year award last term.

In other news, various newspapers are speculating that while Liverpool still remain favourites to sign Fulham forward Clint Dempsey, there is competition emerging from other clubs. The Mirror are speculating that the 29-year-old is simply waiting for the Reds to make a move, after falling out with Craven Cottage chiefs about a possible transfer. However, a report in the Daily Mail has cast a small amount of doubt on the deal, with the newspaper claiming that Everton have now entered the race after recently cashing in on Jack Rodwell. The Daily Mail have also said that Brendan Rodgers is considering offering Charlie Adam as part of any new offer, should the Cottagers reject his next bid.

Various media outlets have also written about a possible move for Barcelona winger Cristian Tello. According to the Mirror, Rodgers believes he is within touching distance of landing the 21-year-old – although Liverpool may have to take him on loan, with the player understood to be against a permanent transfer away from the Nou Camp. The Sun have also reported that the player is on Rodgers’ radar, although according to their report the transfer is still in its early stages and the club have merely registered an interest.

Another report has suggested that the Reds could complete a move for Real Madrid man Nuri Sahin in the near future. Liverpool have been linked with the defensive midfielder for the past couple of weeks, although the paper have concluded that a deal could occur sooner rather than later due to Rodgers’ relationship with Madrid manager Jose Mourinho.

Portuguese newspaper Record have also run a story on Liverpool, with the outlet claiming that Rodgers is considering a move for Benfica midfielder Nolito. The paper has claimed that the player has expressed a desire to leave Portugal and Rodgers could be tempted by a loan move should it be available.
