Gerrard praises Rodgers faith in youth

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on manager Brendan Rodgers for his development of young English talent, according to the Daily Star.

The midfielder believes that the influx of foreigners into the Premier League has made it much more difficult for English players to break through, especially at top clubs.

However, during Rodgers time at Anfield, both Andre Wisdom and Raheem Sterling have burst on to the big stage.

Wisdom has been made captain of England U21’s, while Sterling made his senior debut for Roy Hodgson’s men in a friendly defeat to Sweden last November.

Meanwhile, former Reds striker John Aldridge believes the club should not offer Luis Suarez a new contract, the Mirror understands.

The Uruguay striker made his Premier League return on Sunday afternoon, scoring twice in the 3-1 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light – a result which saw the team rise to second place.

Suarez is now on 40 league goals for Liverpool – ten short of Aldridge, who is sure that the 26 year old will once again look to move away from the club.

The former Ajax man looked almost certain to be sold this summer, though the club rejected both offers for their star man.
