LIST OF PREMIER LEAGUE TOPSCORERS

The top three Premier League goalscorers were on show when Leicester City played hosts to Liverpool at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night. The Liverpool duo of Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota plus Leicester City star Jamie Vardy are the top three goalscorers in the Premier League this season and they all started the aforementioned game.

Ahead of the game, Jota had a tally of ten goals, while Salah and Vardy had 15 goals and nine goals respectively.

The top three goalscorers had chances to add to their league tally but they were not able to find the back of the net during the game especially Salah who had the chance to add to his goals this season from 12 yards out after he was tripped by Nigerian midfielder WilfriedNdidi. Salah uncharacteristically had his penalty saved by Danish national team skipper Kasper Schmeichel in the Leicester City goal and he also hit the crossbar with the rebound before he was off target with his tame right-footed shot from the second rebound.

Salah would later rue the penalty miss as Liverpool conceded the lone goal of the game just before the hour mark. Nigerian-born former England junior international AdemolaLookman came off the bench in place of Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Kelechi Iheanacho and he scored the winning goal of the game shortly afterwards. It took his less than three minutes to make his mark on the game.

After the Leicester City goal, Liverpool forwards Jota and Mane had chances to get something from the game for the Reds but they could not breach the stubborn Leicester City rearguard.

The 1-0 loss to Leicester City ensured that Liverpool missed out on the chance to close the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City before they faced London team Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium on Thursday night.

As things stand, Liverpool are nine points off Manchester City who beat Brentford 1-0. The Reds have one game in hand.
