Liverpool Signs Markovic

Liverpool have continued with the strengthening of the team following the £ 20 million signing of Lazar Markovic from Benfica. He becomes the fourth major signing for the club in the summer, as they target to go one better than last season and win the Premier League title. Liverpool finished second in the table in an extraordinary season. As a result, they will be playing in the Champions League once again in the upcoming campaign. Manager Brendan Rodgers has been constantly stating that he would like to strengthen the team in order to prepare for the more number of matches due to European commitments.

Further, Liverpool recently sold Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £ 75 million. So far, they have been strengthening the squad in the midfield with the arrivals of players like Adam Lallana. Ricki Lambert has been signed from Southampton for £ 4 million, but he is expected to be a backup option only. Lazar Markovic, though, represents an investment for the future from the club. Rodgers recently stated that he regards Markovic to be only behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi when it comes to bringing the wow factor. Even though the Benfica man has been suffering from a lot of injury problems, Liverpool are willing to take a gamble on him.

“I am very happy that I have joined such a great club. I hope that I will fulfil the expectations of the supporters, coaches, players, and all connected to the club. I have seen what the players are like, I have seen what the supporters are like, and I cannot wait to start playing here. I went to Partizan and won the title, I went to Benfica and won the title. Now I have joined Liverpool and want to win the title,” said the player.
