Liverpool slip to third following Newcastle draw

Liverpool were made to settle for a point at St James Park on Saturday lunchtime, twice coming from a goal down to draw 2-2 with Newcastle United.

France international Yohan Cabaye fired in from long range to give the hosts the lead half way through the first half before Steven Gerrard equalised with a penalty three minutes before the break.

Luis Suarez had been pulled down by Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who was duly sent-off giving the Reds captain the chance to score his one hundredth Premier League goal from the spot.

Paul Dummett restored Newcastle’s lead on fifty-six minutes before top scorer Daniel Sturridge again pulled the visitors level eighteen minutes from time.

The Reds briefly returned to the top of the table, only to end the weekend in third place following 4-1 victories for both Arsenal and Chelsea.
Brendan Rodgers’ men will now turn their attention to their home match with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday lunchtime.

Meanwhile, Championship side Derby County are close to securing a loan deal for England U21 captain Andre Wisdom.

The 20 year old, who has appeared just twice in the Premier League this season, is set to join u with Steve McClaren’s men for the rest of the season.
