Thomas Muller fancies Mohamed Salah to pip Ronaldo to Ballon d’Or

Germany international Thomas Fuller believes Mohamed Salah can end Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s dominance for the Ballon d’Or. One of Messi or Ronaldo have won the prestigious award in the last ten seasons but Muller is hoping that Salah can end this run by guiding Liverpool to Champions League glory.

Speaking on behalf of Gillette, Muller told The Mirror: “I think that Mo Salah was very impressive. Maybe if Liverpool can win the Champions League title, he’s a big candidate. The whole world is looking for a new Ballon D’Or winner. Leo Messi and Ronaldo are outstanding, but the performance of Salah this season was also outstanding. I think he has a great chance.”

Salah joined the Reds from AS Roma during the 2017 summer transfer window and he has since been simply stunning for the Merseyside outfit across all competitions. To date, the Egyptian has netted a sublime tally of 44 goals and he has the opportunity to extend this tally when the Reds take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday.

Considering Real Madrid’s European dominance, they are considered as the favourites to secure a third straight Champions League crown but they cannot afford to be complacent against a Reds attack, which has been scoring for fun of late. Over the course of this season’s Champions League, the Reds have averaged more than three goals per game and their attacking threat has often compensated for their defence, which has been vulnerable to counter-attacks.

Nevertheless, Jurgen Klopp’s side go into the encounter without much fear as compared to the reigning champions and the pressure is on Los Blancos to prove that they are still the best in the business. Real Madrid are eyeing a fourth Champions League crown in five seasons and a victory in Kiev would surely witness Ronaldo become favourite for the Ballon d’Or once more.
