Collymore: Uruguay progress will benefit Reds

Stan Collymore believes that Uruguay’s qualification for next summer’s World Cup finals will benefit Liverpool in their pursuit of Champions League football for next season.

Speaking in his People column, the former Reds striker believes that Luis Suarez, who played in both legs of the South American side’s recent 5-0 aggregate victory over Jordan in the World Cup qualification play-offs, will be so keen to prove he can deliver on the big stage, it could help fire Brendan Rodger’s men into the top four.

Suarez has been in blistering form since returning from the ten game suspension he received for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic last April, scoring nine goals in just seven Premier League appearances.

He is now the favourite win bookmakers to finish as top scorer in the English top flight, just ahead of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero who is currently on ten goals, and last the winner in each of the last two seasons Robin van Persie, who has seven so far this term.

Elsewhere, Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he is unsure what do with full-back Jon Flanagan, according to Sky Sports.

The England U21 international made his second league appearance of the season in Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Everton amid speculation that he could be sent out on loan.
